Constitution of the International Club

Article I

Section I

The name of this organization shall be the Tufts International Club, otherwise known as the I-Club.

Article II

Section I

The purpose of the Tufts International Club is to promote foreign culture on campus; promote the integration of International and American students; promote their mutual understanding of each other; promote social events; organize the Intercultural Festival and help with International Orientation.

Section II

At the end of the year, any remaining profits for the Parade of Nations during the Intercultural Festival may be donated at the discretion of the voting I-club officers to any chosen organization. The venue of said profits shall be determined by one month’s time before the Parade of Nations through voting of I-club officers at an officer meeting.

Article III

Section I

Membership is open to any member of the Tufts Community who expresses interest.

Article IV

Section I

Officer meetings will be held on a weekly basis during the academic year, as decided by the I-club President. General Meetings will be held once a month, or more frequently if need be, throughout the academic year on specific dates to be determined.

Section IIA

The President shall preside over all meetings.

Section IIB

The President has authority to at on behalf of the Tufts International Club when matters require immediate attention.

Section IIC

The appointed signatories have the right to make financial transactions on behalf of the Tufts International Club.

Section IIIA

A simple majority vote shall carry all motions unless prescribed otherwise.

Section IIIB

The President, or presiding officer, is to vote only in the event of a tie.

Section IVA

The Vice-President shall take over the responsibilities of the President in his/her absence.

Section VA

The Secretary shall keep all minutes of the official meetings, and provide copies for all of the officers in a prompt fashion.

Section VB

The Advertising Chairs will be in charge of all advertising for the I-club. They will also be in charge of running a committee of members to help them.

Section VC

The Advertising Chairs (2) will not be open to freshmen.

Section VD

Each Advertising Chair will have specific duties: one in charge of design, the other in charge of public relations.

Section VE

The Secretary shall maintain all records of the club membership, and record the attendance of members at each meeting so that voting eligibility can be determined.

Section VIA

The Treasurer shall keep records of all financial transactions.

Section VIB

The Treasurer shall take responsibility for the preparation of the budget for the Tufts International Club; however, the proposed budget should not be put into effect without the approval of all I-club officers.

Section VIC

The Treasurer shall be in charge of the Annual International Club cruise.

Section VIIA

The Assistant Treasurer will be in charge of fundraising events for the International Scholarship Committee, and will work with the Director of the International Center as such.

Section VIIIA

Donating proceeds from an event must be decided by the Board a minimum of one week in advance of the date of the event.

Section IX

Any other committees that need to be created shall be established by the executive board (officers). The head of any such committee shall be appointed from within the executive board by the President and the Vice-President.

Article V

Section IA

Elections will be held for President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Advertising Chairs (2) before Spring Break of each year, and shall assume observational positions on the board until the end of said semester, at which point they will assume full duties.

Section IB

Secretary, Vice-President, Asst. Treasurer, Events Coordinator, and the Freshmen Representatives, shall be elected in the first three weeks of the fall semester.

Section IC

The only offices open to freshmen are Secretary and Freshmen Representatives, as will be elected in the fall.

Section ID

There shall be two Freshmen Representatives; one shall be elected to be the position of Up-Hill representative, and shall live up-hill. The second shall be elected to the post of Down-hill Representative, and shall live in the down-hill portion of campus. Both representatives must be freshmen.

Section IE

The International Center is responsible for the training of the International Club officers.

Section IF

The number of the Board is not to exceed 10.

Section IIA

To remove an officer from office, a motion must be made by another officer and passed by two-thirds of the International Club members in standing.

Section IIB

In case of an office becoming vacant, by impeachment or otherwise, during the year, elections will be held two weeks from the meeting in which such vacancy becomes known.

Section IIIA

For the election of officers in the spring, any member in good standing is entitled to vote and run for these offices. Primary nominations are to be made one week in advance of the elections’ date, with the final nominations to be made on said date. To be in good standing, a member must have attended two of the three most recent meetings of the general membership.

Section IV

For the election of officers in the fall, and member in good standing, as well as any freshmen, is entitled to one vote.

Section V

Prior notification of ten days is necessary before an election takes place.

Section VI

A quorum is established when at least one-half of the members in good standing are present.

Article VI

Section I

The advisor will be the Assistant Director of the International Center.

Article VII

Section I

An Amendment to the constitution may be proposed at any general meeting. The proposed change must be accepted at both the meeting in which it is proposed and at the next consecutive general meeting, by a two-thirds vote of all members in good standing.

Section II

The Amendments must be in compliance and approved of by the Tufts Community Judiciary.
